Review of Blurred Lines::Blurred Lines blurs lines -- John Beckwith vs. Robin Thicke

Miley               Cyrus               has               been               under               public               spotlight               after               her               provocative               performance               at               the               VMA's.

It               seems               to               me               everyone               has               forgotten               one               very               important               part               of               her               performance;               that               being               none               other               then               Robin               Thicke.

Robin               Thicke's               guest               appearance               in               Miley's               performance               sent               the               crowd               wild               as               he               strut               on               stage               in               his               bold               patterned               suit,               singing               his               recent               hit               "Blurred               Lines."               The               song               itself               is               a               sexually               charged               little               piece               which               has               undoubtedly               sparked               the               interest               of               feminists               as               they               note               the               song               promotes               the               idea               that               "no               doesn't               always               mean               no"               with               lyrics               such               as               "i               know               you               want               it"               and               the               title               of               the               song               itself               suggests               that               sexual               consent               is               not               always               black               and               white.

Robin               Thicke               has               reportedly               denied               any               criticisms               of               the               video               and               the               lyrics               of               'Blurred               Lines'               as               being               misogynist               in               any               form.

But               how               can               he               go               about               denying               it               when               women               are               making               feminist               parodies               of               his               video.

One               in               particular               entitled               "defined               lines"               (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC1XtnLRLPM)               points               out               that               men               cannot               just               "grab               me"               and               that               they               are               tired               of               this               "man's               world               and               all               it's               bullshit"               cleverly               sung               to               the               beat               of               Thicke's               'Blurred               Lines'.

When               putting               Robin               Thicke's               song               into               context               it               really               doesn't               make               Miley's               little               twerking               dance               number               all               that               important.

What               everyone               should               be               talking               about               is               what               messages               songs               such               as               Thicke's               'Blurred               Lines'               conveys               to               the               public.
